Ganga’s hotel

I met Ganga when visiting our project area she told me about a group that she had set up Bahundanda Mother's Group, Lamjung.  She herself had been left with four children all girl. She spoke to me about the way that the group had been attempting to raise awareness by dancing to the groups of trekkers going through the Lamjung area, it being part of the Anna Circuit trekking route.  I danced with them that night and that is how I got involved with this group of women.   She had so much life and told me that after her husband died it had been so hard for her and so many women that had been left alone in the mountain area.  She mentioned that she could sell teas and coffees at her rented home to trekkers and also items that everyone required on a day to day basis.
I decided that this lady had so many ideas that we would help her.  We provided cups and pots and basics.  We painted the outside and put a sign saying supported by Hi-Cap UK. I will be visiting this shop in April and hope to see how this little shop of Ganga’s is progressing.   Here are a few pictures.

Women that WE HAVE
FREED FROM POVERTY

One woman whose husband had cancer was left destitute when he died.  She had two machines and worked with another lady as a tailor and could not afford to pay the rent on their shop and home, as she had to pay medical bills.  Her landlord took her 2 machines as payment of her rent; this left her in a real dilemma.
When I heard this story I was completely moved by her situation. Her children were also unable to go to school as they needed to find work to help the family survive and she had also been forced to live with relatives.   We managed to contact the landlord of the property and pay him the back rent and for the return of her two sewing machines.  Within no time she was able to earn enough to rent a home and her children were back at school.  This landlord had taken away this womens livelihood and threw her into poverty.
